I really like the story idea I came up with yesterday, but I’m hating everything about the way that it’s coming out. On the one hand, that shouldn’t be discouraging – that’s part of the process of writing, right? You take raw, rough words and polish them until they shine. But on the other hand, it seems that the stories that seem to click with me in the beginning, with the voice at least, are the ones that are the most successful. So it’s a little worrying. But I won’t give up.
The other thing that’s bothering me is that some of my plots lately have seemed really simple and also predictable. It’s generally the other elements that I focus on, that get me into the story, but I think I need to spend a little time amping up the plotting.
I still wonder if I “get” short story writing…
