Ask Me Anything – February 19

In two weeks, on Thursday, February 19 at 7:00 PM, I will be doing a Reddit AMA. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the AMA, it stands for Ask Me Anything. I’ll answer questions on any topic, but probably mostly about Falling Sky, writing, writing a first novel, airships, post-apocalypses, beer, writing groups, workshops and more. I hope you’ll tune in and ask me a question. Anything. It’s right there in the title. Do it.

My Eligible Work

As much as I hate doing this, the nominations are currently open for the Hugo Nominations. Members of the 2014, 2015, and 2016 Worldcons (voting members) are eligible to nominate works published in 2014 (more details here).

I don’t have a lot of eligible works from 2014 as I was mostly working on Falling Sky but Falling Sky is eligible in the novel category.

Additionally, my short story, “Second Hand”, which appeared in the Dead Man’s Hand anthology is also eligible in the short story category. “Second Hand” can be read in its entirety (or listened to) on the Lightspeed Magazine website.

If you liked either or both of those and felt them worthy of being nominated for a Hugo (and can nominate works) please feel free to do so.

The Last of 2014

It’s a new year and yet I was remiss in not posting about some things that happened last year, particularly related to Falling Sky:

I love podcasts and hope to appear on more of them in the future. What’s better than talking with smart, talented, and interesting people? If you have any that you love and would recommend, leave them in the comments.

Falling Sky Launch Party!

keep-calm-and-let-s-party-73

If you’re in or near New York City tomorrow night, I hope you’ll come join me for the Falling Sky Launch Party. It will be held at Professor Thom’s in the East Village from 7-10. A bookseller from Word bookstore in Greenpoint will be on hand to sell copies of the book. Come have a drink, say hello, and help me celebrate the release of the book.

Hope to see you there.

Falling Sky Review Roundup

I don’t know if two reviews qualify as a roundup, but I was pleased with the reviews for Falling Sky from both Publisher’s Weekly and Library Journal.

From Publisher’s Weekly:

This solid and memorable debut is set in a world where a disease has turned most people into quasi-zombies called Ferals…Khanna’s vision of a ruined world, populated by human monsters on the surface and desperate survivors in the air, is bleak but compelling. Ben is a flawed, selfish hero in the spirit of Han Solo, always on the lookout for number one until a greater cause catches his conscience.

And Library Journal gave it a starred review and named it the Science Fiction/Fantasy Debut of the Month!:

Postapocalyptic sf is a heavily traveled genre, as is steampunk, but debut novelist Khanna combines both quite well here, as the airships help to keep humanity safe from the infected ferals on the ground in a world where the action never stops, leaving room for more adventures.

I’m very happy that people seem to be enjoying the novel. Only two more weeks to go…

Raining Fire – Out now!

Raining Fire, the third and final book in the Ben Gold series, was released on July 18, 2017. This book concludes the story begun in Falling Sky and Rising Tide. Publisher’s Weekly said, “Khanna wraps up his postapocalyptic adventure series with a capable page-turner…the airships, slavers, cannibalistic Ferals, and visceral action scenes make this a worthy culmination to the series.”

Available at Amazon and Barnes & Noble now.

Rising Tide -Out now!

Rising Tide, the sequel to Falling Sky, was released on October 6, 2015. Publisher's Weekly said, "Khanna crafts a terrifyingly dismal picture of the future, raising the stakes by gradually stripping Ben of friends and support while throwing him into increasingly dire situations. His worldbuilding remains solid and unsettling, and he never loses sight of the human element. The cliffhanger ending is sure to leave readers on the edges of their seats, panting for resolution."

Falling Sky – Out now!

Falling Sky, my first novel, came out October 7, 2014 from Pyr. It's an adventure story set in a post-apocalyptic future with airships. Publisher's Weekly called it a "solid and memorable debut" while Library Journal gave it a starred review and named it Debut of the Month. For more information, please click here.
